My name is Michelle Lawes, I am the founder of Hair of the Dog Devizes, an independently run dog grooming salon which offers natural and tailored pet trims and dog grooming services.
I hold City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming assistant, City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, I am fully insured and canine first aid trained. I prioritise every dog’s experience with the grooming process and do not believe in ‘just completing the groom’ especially when a dog is stressed! A rushed groom is an unsafe groom. When a dog is happy with its groomer, they trust you, relax and will enjoy future grooms.

As a dog lover, I decided I was too old to consider veterinary nursing, but wanted to utilise my health care skills and knowledge and continue to be hands on. In 2022 I was professionally trained by Lesley Garratt of Canine Design Academy of Dog Grooming. Lesley, LCGI is a member of the Guild of Master groomers and holds the BDGA Higher Diploma in dog grooming (the highest qualification). Later that year I proudly achieved City and Guilds level 2 (Distinction) dog grooming assistant and level 3 (Merit) dog groomer qualifications.
In my previous life, I was an NHS nurse for many years dedicating my time caring for patients. From 2019 life changed, particularly with the pandemic creating significant change in how nurses were able to consult and treat their patients. I realised with these changes it was time for a career change.
I will always tell you honestly how your dog feels during the groom and will make recommendations for next time. Owners of puppies, nervous and anxious dogs are often invited to stay if I feel it will benefit your dog during its groom.

Purpose-Built Home Salon
As a dog owner I wanted to create a grooming salon that I would like for my own dogs: a relaxed and caring environment, with no factory-line approaches. I provide a one to one service, that is non-rushed, stress free and enjoyable for both. I happily welcome dog owners to come and have a look around so you and your dog can familiarise yourself with the new surroundings.
